Okay, see, in the Divine Comedy, Dante writes with all these little narrative rules, and generally sticks by them. One of the rules is that Virgil, because of his status as a virtuous pagan in Limbo, never achieves true intellectual or spiritual understanding of the Christian God. So, using the paradigm, if you gave Virgil a Christmas present, he wouldn't understand the point of it.
(I've read Dante with great joy, but it was a long time ago. While I was veery pleased to see Virgil, I didn't really understand the joke without the explanation. I need to reread this poem.)
haha, i love it. we talked once or twice about 3 years back and i'm sure you don't remember (i was going to lawrenceville at the time), but i found a picture on my computer (while aimlessly browsing) that you did of Marat a while back, and thought "damn, i'm curious as to what that boy-wonder is up to (and if he likes Pton)?"
